Preliminary Evaluation

Madonna Analysis

Rolling stones recreation

The recreation process taught me how to make a magazine and this proved to myself that in I have little to no limitations on the major magazine companies. I am extremely happy with the magazine I have created as I think the puffs are extremely similar, unfortunately I could not get the camera angle correct and the masthead font is slightly different but this does not hinder the overall front cover recreation I believe.

Analysis of features

How Magazines are displayed

The stand is colourful to entice readers; this too is evidentiary in the label itself. The labels of ‘Latest Issue’ are used to indicate and draw readers in but also to alert regular readers of the current issue available. The tag of ‘your lowest price’ shows quite predominantly how much our society looks for a bargain so I think that my magazine will have to be fairly priced and to a high standard to justify the price.

This will also help me in making a decision regarding my layout and colour scheme; all the magazines seem to merge together and none really appear signnificant from the rest, also the puffs do not seem visible when stacked on the shelves.

Brief Chosen-Print

Print

Preliminary exercise: Using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.

Main task: The front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine.

All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate, minimum of four images per candidate. (As specified by the exam board)

I have chosen this brief due to having prior experience of magazines and the magazine industry. I believe I am competent with Photoshop and could finish a magazine to a high standard.

Aims and Challenges
My aim is to create a magazine to a high standard which will build upon my GCSE knowledge. I hope to make a magazine which will expand my creativity.

My main challenge will be to get out of my GCSE frame of mind in order to expand onto A level. The other challenges will be familiarise myself with the new technology and terms required at A level.
